The king repeats the goose's words to his steward verbatim — the formula of the winning die: the text is repeated without abridgement, and there is a truth in the repetition: the words that scorched him in the night the king has learned by heart: that is how a verdict once heard is carried about.
The repetition works on the Upaniṣad's hearer as well: the kṛta formula is driven in twice, like a nail: all good flows to the knower. The court has heard a strange commission: to find the man into whom the king's merits flow — and the steward will set out to look for a great man… where great men are of course looked for: and will not find him.
