The evening oblation is in the plural: namaḥ ādityebhyaś ca viśvebhyaś ca devebhyaḥ — "homage to the Ādityas and the All-gods": divi-kṣidbhyaḥ — "dwellers in heaven": the third storey of addressees (earth — air — heaven!): and the petition, vindata — "find ye" — is now addressed to a chorus: at the evening door the whole pantheon is set to work.
The day's three homages have gathered up the vertical: Agni of the earth, Vāyu of the expanse, the Ādityas of heaven: in a single day the sacrificer has gone round the whole universe with his bows — and on every storey has asked a world for himself. Such is the full geography of the order: not a striving toward one point but the settling of the whole vertical: the knower has a world of his own on every storey of being.
