He who venerates name as Brahman is free to move as he wishes everywhere that name reaches." — "Sir, is there anything greater than name?" — "There is something greater than name." — "Tell it to me, sir."

A formula that will be repeated at every rung: one who venerates it "as Brahman" receives yathā-kāma-cāra, freedom to move at will "everywhere that" this rung reaches. The reward is honest and exact: sovereignty within the bounds of what is venerated. A knower of names is master of everything nameable; but name has an edge, and its venerator's sovereignty has the same edge.
And now the question sounds that makes Nārada great: asti bhagavo nāmno bhūya iti — "is there anything greater?" Fifteen times he will ask it, and each time it is a feat: the asker is a man who has just been promised freedom throughout the whole realm he has attained. Not to be satisfied with an available sovereignty, to sense the edge of every rung — that is the engine of the ascent. Spiritual thirst is precisely the refusal to mistake a spacious cage for freedom.
