Then he makes an oblation: "Homage to Agni, who dwells on the earth, who dwells in the world! Find a world for me, the sacrificer! This is the sacrificer's world — I am going [into it]!"

An oblation with a petition: namo 'gnaye pṛthivī-kṣite loka-kṣite — "homage to Agni, dweller on earth, dweller in the world": lokam me yajamānāya vinda — "find a world for me, the sacrificer!": from the fire of the morning hour the sacrificer's own world is sought — the very thing the khaṇḍa asked about (2.24.2!): here is where his world is: with Agni, and it is won by homage and petition.
eṣa vai yajamānasya loka etāsmi — "this is the sacrificer's world — hither I go": a formula of entering: what has been asked for is at once professed as one's own: the prayer ends with an act of faith — "I am already there". Each of the day's three doors is built the same way: song — oblation — petition — entering: four steps that open an hour.
