Sanjaya continues the long roll call of celebrated kings of old — Puru, Kuru, Yadu (from whom great lineages sprang), Sagara, Raghu, Nala, and many more. All of them were mighty, glorious, and righteous — and all of them are gone. The sheer abundance of names drives home a single point: death spares no one, however great he may be. This teaching of vairagya is meant to draw the grieving beyond attachment to the perishable. The conclusion is one: if even the greatest sovereigns and whole dynasties have vanished in time, the soul must rest not on fleeting fame or earthly bonds but on the eternal Lord, who alone stands beyond time and death.
